Frequently Asked Questions

a. How is the Emergency Response System set up in my home?
Ans.
Installation of the emergency response system is performed in most situations by a trained installer. An installation date and time is arranged at the client’s availability. Average installation time is one hour.
In some situations the emergency response system is mailed directly to the client’s home with easy directions to install the equipment. A telephone support associate at First Response Monitoring will provide any needed assistance and also collect important medical information and contact information. Finally, a demonstration of the emergency system will be performed in the home for testing purposes and familiarity with the alarm process.

b. How will I learn to use the emergency response system?
Ans.

During the initial installation, much care is taken to educate and demonstrate the process of an emergency situation using the emergency response system.
Monthly testing is performed to give the client an opportunity to activate the emergency response system for increased familiarity with the alarm process.

c. How far away from my home can I press for help?
Ans.
The pendant signal ranges from 200 feet to 1000 feet depending on the building material of the structure.  A walking test is performed during installation to map out signal strength between the pendant and emergency response unit from different key points inside and outside of the home.

d. What if I press the button accidentally?
Ans.
Although there are no accidents for the response operator at the monitoring center and every call is answered with urgency, the client can simply communicate the false alarm. The emergency response unit will be quickly reset and ready for any emergency situation.  The needs of the client always come first.

e.
How do I know my Emergency Response System will work when I need it?
Ans.
First Response Monitoring requires monthly testing of your emergency response system. A representative will contact you to activate your system. If you have any doubt of your emergency response systems function press your pendant. You only need to inform the response operator that you were just testing the equipment.  There is never a fee for you to activate your emergency response system.

f. Will using my emergency response system increase my phone bill?
Ans.
No. All help and test calls to our monitoring center use a toll-free number.
